  1. Understand the genres of realist fiction and folktales
  2. Use background knowledge and personal experience
  3. Understand character and events using evidence to support statements
  4. Infer cause/effect that influence character's feelings and motivations
  5. Understand the lesson in a traditional tale
Fluency
  1. Read dialogue with expression that demonstrates understanding
Word Study
  1. Recognize and use words with the long -O- sound
  2. Use context to derive meaning of words
Activity:
Book Discussion: Hodja and the Robber
Close Reading: Infer
Independent Writing: None

  3. Predict what will happen next or what a character will do, and confirm or disconfirm predictions.
  4. Articulate key understandings related to a folktale.
  5. Understand the lesson learned in a story.
Fluency
  1. Read with appropriate stress on words
Word Study
  1. recognize and use words with a long -u- sound pattern
  2. use the parts of a word to derive meaning of the word
  3. notice and use word parts to decode words
Activity:
Reading
Close Reading
Independent Writing: Writing about The Hen and the Dove Identifying the significance of elements in the structure of a story.

Fluency:
  1. Demonstrate awareness of the full range of punctuation.
Word Study
  1. Recognize and use short vowel sounds in the middle of words that include a consonant cluster. 
  2. Notice unfamiliar words and use context and word parts to derive the meaning
  3. Decode words with two or three syllables
Activity:
Independent Writing: Two column Writing....Allie's needed to make some decisions to help solve some problems she faced in the story.  In the left column Identify the decision she made and in the right column describe how her decision solved the problem and whether you think it was the correct decision. 

Introduce new text "Eggs for Gram!"
